Good morning, everybody. Please have a seat. A week ago today, I sent Congress the American Jobs Act. It’s a plan that will lead to new jobs for teachers, for construction workers, for veterans, and for the unemployed. It will cut taxes for every small business owner and virtually every working man and woman in America. And the proposals in this jobs bill are the kinds that have been supported by Democrats and Republicans in the past. So there shouldn’t be any reason for Congress to drag its feet. Federal contracting officials are currently challenged with meeting their required small business procurement goals. Although the Obama Administration is creating more outreach and contract awareness programs, not every federal contracting official has the ability to locate, educate and guide small businesses on how to successfully secure and continue to grow their business with government contracts.

During my four decades of public service I have worked with many amazing people – some heroes who have risked their lives to save others, some who have risen to the occasion during crises like the Gulf oil spill and Hurricane Katrina, and many who have quietly gone about the business of serving the public with great dedication day-in and day-out. I was born while my father was at sea on a Coast Guard cutter.
