UN Seeks Unprecedented Control Of Global Internet Traffic

The United Nations’ International Telecommunications Union has taken the unprecedented step of adopting a standard for the Internet that would essentially permit eavesdropping on a global basis.

According to a just-published piece on the RT.com web site, ITU members decided to adopt a standard, known as Y.2770, which would permit the inspection of Internet traffic. This inspection of emails and message content would be the physical world equivalent of opening any piece of mail and reading what is inside. The only defense against this is encryption. Here is a working definition that has broad acceptance: A virtual-state is defined as a nebulous community of individuals that self-identify and share in common one or more social, political and/or ideological convictions, ideas or values. Cyber Intelligence: “Every Classified Database” Compromised?

It is hard to go online without seeing yet another report about an inappropriate disclosure of classified information and last week was no different.

From an undisclosed location in Canada, Chris Doyon — also known under the hacker handle of Commander X, who is an active member of the group known as Anonymous (and pictured in an FBI photo above) — recently told the Postmedia in Canada: “Right now we have access to every classified databases in the U.S. government. Federal IT Managers Embrace Cloud, But Not Cloud-First Mandate

One year after Cloud First, federal agencies are embracing the cloud. But they want it to be safer and more transparent. Above all, they don’t want to be locked into just one kind of cloud or a nothing-but-cloud approach.

That’s what we found in an exclusive survey conducted for SafeGov.org by the Ponemon Institute. The survey found that federal managers are working diligently to comply with the Office of Management and Budget’s Cloud First initiative, but are not yet convinced cloud applications are safe enough or will lead to significant cost savings. Cyber Intelligence: Another Successful Attack By Anonymous

This year Anonymous has become very well known after successfully compromising several web systems. The hacking collective known as Anonymous is thought to have more than 1,000 active members. This group recently released more than 1,000 stolen files that totaled hundreds of megabytes in size.

The digital documents are said to top 390 megabytes in size and contained reports related to NATO, the US Army and personnel files were posted for download and as proof of their efforts. Keep reading →
