A new report issued by the Government Accountability Office Nov. 26, 2012, is making recommendations aimed at improving coordination and reducing duplication in the collection and sharing of geospatial data.

The GAO report found a number of investments have not been implemented effectively, and recommended that Federal Geographic Data Committee among other steps, develop a national strategy for coordinating geospatial investments; that participating federal agencies following federal guidance for managing geospatial investments; and that the Office of Management and Budget develop a mechanism to identify and report on geospatial investments.
