This week marked the historic launch of the health insurance marketplaces (also known as “public insurance exchanges”). The Healthcare Trends Institute, an educational platform for employers, consumers and other healthcare benefits stakeholders, has developed two tools for understanding public exchanges: ReformWatch interactive map, and an infographic titled The State of the Exchanges.

The ReformWatch interactive map tracks public exchanges on a state-by-state basis as they launch. Employers and consumers can select their state and view detailed information regarding its exchange, including the type of exchange funding (federal, state, or a partnership), where they can register for enrollment, and links to other helpful information.

The Institute’s The State of Exchanges commemorates the first day of open enrollment for all public exchanges. The infographic provides details of how the exchanges work, who is using them, and what they mean for both consumers and the health sector in the future.

The launch of these public health exchanges, as mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, marks a milestone within the U.S. healthcare benefits industry,” said Tiffany Wirth, Executive Director, Healthcare Trends Institute. “With so much information swirling about, we felt it was important to create simple tools to help employers and consumers better understand the exchanges so they can effectively participate in them.”
