This Oct. 1, 2010 memo from Vivek Kundra, U.S. CIO, and Richard Spires, CIO, DHS, provides an update on the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative.

The goals of the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative are to assist agencies in identifying their existing data center assets and to formulate consolidation plans that include a technical road map and consolidation targets. As of July 30, 2010, based on agency submissions, there are 2,094 Federal data centers.

As part of the President’s fiscal year 2012 budget, OMB will release data center reduction targets by agency.
